Recommitment Ceremony
Starting off the recommitment to e-mail with a semi-entry into the blog--my first e-mail after the pact (which i failed to express my support of). . .later, i'll edit the post to hold apartment pictures, but for now, let this serve as reminder of the bloggeroony.
Aha. the miki fill-in is correct :)
I had the jury duty yesterday (i was retarded with my dates, mols. . . may 10 and 11 were inextricably entertwined in my brain cause of jury duty, car insurance expiration, and another due date. the conan e-mail just added to the memory salad, and luckily all cleared up by now, as the tenth is over. but id on't really care for line-standing, so all is well, and i'm crossing fingers for your Conan acceptance!). . . for cook county (incidentally, you're on jury call for an entire month in wisconsin, not just one day.), but since patrick had a huge ordeal with the i've-moved-to-new-mexico-how-could-you-hold-me-to-jury-in-il argument, so i decided to go. Once in Skokie, they exrayed my bag, and asked my adress. Milwaukee?! the woman exclaimed in confusiojn and suprise. THIS GIRL MOVED TO MILWUAKEE! turning back to me: Lets see your license. well, you see, i've just moved--it still shows my chicago address. I calmly explained. Oh. she says to me with a look that can only be described as A Loss For Words. How about a copy of my lease? I asked her. Oh. that would work--fax it to this number. she says, taking out a sticky-note. That's all, just fax that, there's no form or anything? I'm starting to feel skeptical here. Yeah, i'll just keep this here, and you fax that to me. ohbekaybe. . . i departed to milwaukee to complete the hundred-fifty mile round trip, and headed to kinkos, totally convinced that she had simply thrown away my jury summons. loved it.
Today, i am indeed having a rainy thursday. it's fucking freeeeeeezing, completlely windy (as opposed to partially), and pisssing shitty rain. Definately not the kind of day where i felt regret at not having a job to be at. Though, i had an interview this morning (for which i awoke on my own, just this side of too late, my alarmclock-setting-prowess having failed me.) I sent my resume in response to a newspaper ad i saw a week after passing the design-architecture-remodel company's awesome building and ocmmenting to myself "i ought to get a job there". Kismet, right? i don't want to jinx it, but it went really well, i'd be awesome for the job, and they all seem super nice. I only hope i didn't mention a too-high salary, cause i'm kindof at a loss on that front. . . we shall see.
I spent the rest of the morning debating with the key guy at Home Depot: "yes, i'm sure they didn't work. will you please cut new keys for me?", scrambling through the rain, grocery shopping and visiting the DMV. I registered my car, and got wisconsin plates (sniff--my car's a cheezer), but couldn't get a drivers liscence without a utility bill. lease (or car registration) doesn't count, apparently. whoops. so i've got another day of non-cheezer-ness, or at least untill i work up the gumption to visit another DMV-- maybe i'll try the one i went to first( which is closed only on Thursdays.....wha?)
As far as my transformation to wisconsinite goes, i've got insurance, handled by a moron, and relieved by the only sane person in the office--who ironically has just moved from chicago (i suspect glenview, but who's counting?). My parentls visited last sunday, and i'm thinking about possibly getting a boyfriend here. maybe this saturday or next. Also, i'm planning on a cat, or maybe a bunny--hope to visit humane society on sat. even thouhg i told myhself i'd wait till i had a salary to ensure the means to purchase catfood. . . we'll see on that too. :)
I still don't have pictures, but when i can, i'll take a shot of the teeny, immaculate, electric oven that i'm testing out for the first time today (i've used the stove top, but not yet the oven). . .and also my awesome storage unit, the counter weighted basemetn fire-doors, and the cute cat in the neighboring apartneme that stares at me through the window. . . well, probably won't snap photos of my neighbors' living rooms, but i will of mine. you'll see
miss you all.
beth
ps. i don't believe real-person-hood is contingent upon college graduation, i'd just like to say. but cograts to kelly!! it's so crazy weird! :)
