What I like about you
Molly and Lucy came up yesterday, to visit me in 'Sconnie. I always wonder what kind of picture people have of Milwaukee, because to me it seems completely worthy of both the phrases "that figures", and "who'da thunk it?" For instance, Milwaukee's Journal Sentinel's last two days' top headlines have been about bugs. Seriously, bugs. But there's also the world's largest music festival here, and many other cultural aspects that some would consider surprises.
One of the things I really enjoy about Milwaukee is that they seem to have an inordinate amount of pride in community here. Not that I've been unfamiliar with community involvement,
or loyalty, in Chicago, but it just seems to be more the standard here. And I really dig that. Even if it means everyone knows at least one person with a Green and Gold family room. . . or even Garage door. Speaking of those Green and Gold Gods, the Green Bay Packers are the only professional sports team that is publicly owned. An understandable point of pride for many Wisconsonites. I was telling Molly about that, and then encountered this article about the effort to bring an Air America affiliate to Wisconsin. It's a bit different, considering that buying a share in the Packers couldn't have been much of a risk, but neither is a ten dollar pixel purchase exactly a walk on the wild side. Even though I'm certain that the airwaves here would benefit from a little Janeane Garafalo or Al Franken, I don't think I'm personally willing to make the investment. . . but I think the idea's purdy cool.
